Greenwich, NJ has contracted National Metering Services, Inc. to replace and upgrade residential water meters throughout the city. The new system being installed will be read by radio transmitters attached to the new water meters from a central location.

The meter installation project is scheduled to start on or about on April 27, 2009. Customer notices will be mailed to all residents announcing the program. Access to homes will be necessary to install the new  water meter and radio equipment. The installation takes about 30 minutes to complete. Customers are asked to have the area around the water meter clear and accessible for the technician.

The water meters being installed are manufactured by Severn Trent - Smart Meter Technology. The RF equipment is manufactured by KP Electronic Systems Ltd.  

All National Metering Services, Inc. employees are in uniform and have proper identification. All installers have had background checks completed by the State Police prior to employment.

The new meters offer benefits to both customers and the water utility: 

  1. No longer generating or receiving estimated bills 
  2. No longer giving a meter reader access to their home
  3. Customer’s being billed and paying for exact water usage.
  4. Increasing the efficiency of meter reading
  5. Reducing labor costs
