Utiliworks??? Clients Win Second Consecutive
Project of the Year The City of Ruston
Receives Smart Grid Project of the Year Award at
DistribuTECH 2010

Krakow, Poland ???The City of Ruston, LA received
the Smart Grid Project of the Year by Utility
Automation and Engineering T&D Magazine, a
division of PennWell Corporation. The awards
were announced and distributed during the
opening keynote ceremony for DistribuTECH on
Tuesday, March 23, 2010 in Tampa, Florida. |

Last year,
Utiliworks was a contributing party for the ???AMI
Project of the Year??? award, which was received

Pennington, Utiliworks??? Managing Director, explains that
the City???s project fully accommodates allcritical
aspects of a smart grid as defined by
EPRI.???Incorporating all these components which cut
acrossso many technical disciplines will make this one
of the most aggressive and forward thinking smart
grid projectsin the U.S.,??? says Dale Pennington. The
City of Ruston???s smart-grid energy management system
will develop a fully functioning Smart Grid by improving
customer systems, automating electricity distribution,
and deploying a smart meter network and data management
system, according to the DOE description of the ARRA
Smart Grid Investment Grant awarded to the City.
National
Metering Services Inc., based out of New Jersey,
performed the system integration and installation for
Ruston???s successful pilot program. National Metering
will continue to provide these services throughout the
continuation of Ruston???s Smart Grid project.
According to the statement of work, the City of Ruston???s
project target results include:

1,287,994 KHW renewable energy generation ??? Fuel
reduction of 7,500 gallons ??? A 5% energy reduction
overall for customers ??? A 50% reduction of
distribution interruptions ??? An estimated community
cost savings of over $5,266,674
